District Policy on Absences
State law requires our school to closely monitor student absences and their potential impact to the academic progress of students. At times the school may call to ensure strong school support for students and their families.
To help us please consider the following:
- Attendance Responsibilities
- Early Dismissal/Late Arrivals
- Pre-Arranged Absences
- Excused and Unexcused Absences
- Absences During Testing
- When to Keep Your Child Home
- Withdrawals

Absence Challenges and Responses
- Each unexcused absence will be followed-up with an automated telephone call or email to parent/guardian/caretakers.
- If a student has three or more full-days of unexcused absences in a month we will set a meeting to discuss supports for the student/family.
- On or before the seventh unexcused absences in a month a truancy letter will be sent to the family reminding of school attendance requirements.
- Excessive excused absences will be addressed by the Counselors/Administrators. You may be asked to provide a doctor’s note for excessive excused absences due to illness, if you reach a total of 15 excused absences at any point in the school year.
- A truancy petition may be filed if a student has seven (7) unexcused absences in a month or fifteen (15) unexcused absences in a year.
CMMS will follow the ISD Regulations on Excused and Unexcused Absences.
