Cell Phones and Personal Technology

Cell Phones and Personal Technology

The policy for cell phones at Cougar Mountain Middle School is “Off and Away”. To fully engage in learning during the school day, we ask that students also keep other personal technology such as Air pods and earbuds “Off and Away” as well. There may be occasional and/or special times when personal tech use will be allowed. This will be clearly communicated at that time by teachers and/or staff members. We strongly encourage students to keep these items safety stored in their school-issued locker.

Equitable Conduct Expectations

Equitable Conduct Expectations

The Issaquah School District values equity, diversity and inclusion. The District is committed to building and sustaining a welcoming school community. Our District and community are made up of people of different backgrounds, needs and perspectives. Our learning community includes people of varying races, ethnic backgrounds, abilities/disabilities, religions, ages, languages, socioeconomic status, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender expressions or identities.

Student expectations include:

  • Respect each individual, even if that person’s identity is different from your own.
  • Seek to understand your impact on others while seeking to understand other’s intent.
  • Communicate respectfully with others in person, on social media and in any other form.
  • Use what you are learning to use good judgment and make ethical and informed decisions.
  • Take responsibility for your words and actions.

We all have a responsibility to report behavior that interferes with having an equitable and inclusive learning environment that honors and respects people of all identities. If you become aware of any actions that violate the expectations above, we encourage you to speak up through one or more of the following ways:

  • Tell a teacher, staff member or other trusted adult immediately.
  • If you are comfortable and safe doing so, speak up in the moment to encourage more equitable and inclusive talk or action, and/or support those being hurt.
  • Report it anonymously via the district's safety concern webpage. Be sure to include details such as names of people, time, location and building.
Non-School Related Item Restrictions

Non-School Related Item Restrictions

Parents/Caregivers and students are discouraged from bringing any birthday gifts, party foods, flowers, treats, etc. to CMMS as this creates additional disruptions to regular school operation. Due to distractions to the learning environment, balloons are not allowed at school. Students are not permitted to have food or drinks delivered to campus using delivery services, any of these deliveries will be stored in the main office until the end of the day for students to pick up.

School Issued Laptop Expectations

School Issued Laptop Expectations

All students will be issued a school district laptop and charger. It is the expectation that this laptop and charger are handled with care by the student. If these items are lost or damaged, fees or fines may be issued. We encourage students and families to develop an evening routine that includes charging this laptop each evening so it is available as a learning tool for the following school day. Each student must abide by the 6-12 Students Responsible Use Agreement (RUA). We would like to emphasize student should not try, unless with permission to make large downloads or uploads that might take up internet capacity and prevent other users from being able to carry out their work.

Traffic Safety

Traffic Safety

At Cougar Mountain Middle School, we take safety seriously. We ask that anyone driving their vehicle on or near our campus follow general road and traffic safety laws and abide by all posted traffic signs including speed limit signs. The established speed limit on our campus is a maximum of 10 mph. Additionally, families in vehicles dropping off and picking up students must do so in the designated area on the east sidewalk of the main driveway. Use of the parking garage for drop off or pick up is not permitted.  It is prohibited for students to cross the driveway or road to enter a vehicle on the other side. And, of course please be mindful of our on-campus crosswalk as it is regularly used by many students, staff and parents/caregivers alike. Help us keep CMMS a safe place to be!
